About the role We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our high-performing Commercial Dispute Resolution and Litigation team in Sydney. In this full-time role, you'll provide essential support to a partner and a team of skilled lawyers, helping to drive efficiency and excellence in a fast-paced environment. You'll also have the opportunity to assist the wider team during peak billing periods, making you a key player in our success.
In this role you will have exposure to a diverse range of litigation matters. There is plenty of variety in this role with the key responsibilities and duties being:
Administrative Support: Manage diaries and inboxes, coordinate meetings, process expenses, and handle all document preparation, printing, and scanning.File Management: Open and close files, prepare cost letters, update client data in our CRM, and oversee electronic archiving.Court Document Preparation: Assist in drafting briefs and lodge court and tribunal documents with accuracy and efficiency.Billing & Reporting: Take charge of end to end billing, including time recording and preparing detailed monthly invoices.Client Interaction: Act as the primary point of contact, liaising confidently with clients and all team members.We work in a hybrid way at Maddocks, with at least 3 days of our week in the office, and also have wider flexible working arrangements, whether that's hours, place of work or the leave you take. About you You will be proactive, flexible and confident working autonomously with minimal supervision or instruction. You are someone who can maintain ownership of their role in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.
To succeed in this role, you'll bring:
Litigation Experience – Extensive secretarial experience in a litigation practice, with a strong grasp of legal processes, terminology, and court jurisdictions.Proactive Mindset – A self-starter with advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in a dynamic practice.Technical Skills – Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with experience in Aderant Expert being a plus.Attention to Detail – A track record of delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines.Strong Communication – Excellent interpersonal skills to confidently engage with clients and colleagues at all levels.Maddocks is simply a great place to do great work.
