Human Resources (HR) as a function within the agency aims to understand the desired business outcomes, and ensure that the workforce is available, supported, confident and capable to deliver on those outcomes.
HR professionals within the agency enable business strategy with contemporary, professional people-based solutions, systems, and services. This includes implementation and delivery of client-centered, responsive, HR systems, processes and solutions that support the workforce to deliver on their strategy and priorities. Work health and safety professionals provide guidance and support in workplace health and safety matters, implement occupational health and safety procedures, monitor, and audit the workplace and record and investigate incidents.
Assistant Directors – Health and Safety may lead a multi-disciplinary team that develop and improve policy and procedures to achieve safe workplaces for staff, visitors, and customers. They ensure high quality delivery and improvement of a range of work health and safety activities including but not limited to advice and support in work health and safety, customer aggression prevention, employee wellbeing, as well as support and options to staff and leaders on inappropriate workplace behaviour, bullying and harassment (including sexual harassment) to assist the agency in minimising the risk/impact of workplace incidents. Assistant Directors – Health and Safety exercise a considerable degree of independence and undertake a leadership role, with work being performed under the broad direction of senior staff. They manage detailed projects or programs and develop and manage relationships with stakeholders.
Assistant Director roles can be offered in various teams within the Health and Safety Branch:
Customer Aggression Prevention Team
The Customer Aggression Prevention team develop and improve policy and procedures to achieve safe workplaces for staff, visitors, and customers.
Employee Wellbeing Team
The Employee Wellbeing team provides consistent advice, information, and resources to promote employee health and wellbeing in the workplace.
Health and Safety Solutions Team
The Safe Service Design team works with business to implement effective approaches to mitigate risks and support workers involved in emotionally distressing work and are a key contributor to job re-design and process improvement considering health and safety implications of programmes, customer behaviour and interactions.
WHS Governance and Strategy Team
The WHS Governance and Strategy team designs, maintains, and reports on the agency's work health and safety system to promote safe working.
WHS Delivery Team
The WHS Delivery team supports managers to identify and mitigate WHS risks in consultation with workers and Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs), and conducts safety assurance audits and WHS incident investigations.
The key duties of the position include:Providing specialist advice and support on work health and safety policy and interpretation issues.Consulting on workplace health and safety, mental health programs and related initiatives.Promoting compliance with policies and guidelines to prevent accidents/incidents.Identifying and developing work programs on health and safety and workplace mental health and wellbeing.Developing, implementing, and evaluating policy, guidelines, and documentation.Overseeing work health and safety reports and lead operations including business performance, resource management, and workflow prioritisation.Providing leadership and manage team performance, coaching, mentoring, and capability development.Researching, analysing, and developing innovative solutions to meet customer requirements and maintain stakeholder relationships.In accordance with section 22(6) of the Public Service Act 1999, Services Australia requires applicants to be Australian citizens to be eligible for employment with Services Australia.
