The Governance Manager will be responsible for ensuring high standards of governance and compliance within GAC.

About the Role
This role plays a key part in aligning decisions with Gumalas governance framework, statutory obligations, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership, guide governance processes, and maintain a culture of accountability and transparency.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee governance frameworks to ensure alignment with the CATSI Act and other statutory requirements.
* Provide strategic advice on governance matters to the Board and Executive Team.
* Develop, review, and implement governance policies, procedures, and best practices.
* Conduct research and prepare high-level reports on governance and compliance issues.
* Ensure the accurate interpretation and application of legislative and regulatory guidelines.
* Monitor and assess governance risks, implementing mitigation strategies as required.
* Lead governance training and capacity-building initiatives for Board members and senior staff.
* Support the coordination and management of Board meetings, including agenda preparation and minute-taking.
* Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the organisation.
Skills and Experience Required
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or extensive experience in a similar role (preferably within an Aboriginal Corporation).
* Proven experience in senior management and leadership, with the ability to mentor and motivate teams.
* Strong understanding of statutory and regulatory governance requirements.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the CATSI Act and its application.
* High attention to detail with excellent organisational and time management skills.
* Cultural sensitivity and alignment with Aboriginal cultural values.
* Exceptional research and report-writing skills.
* Ability to interpret complex legislative documents and provide strategic insights.
