Spinifex State College is seeking a Community Advisor (Identified) to join our Local Community education board part of our indigenous support team. As the Community Advisor you will provide advice and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students that will engender adoption of attitude and behaviours that assist in maximising educational outcomes.
This role is offered on a temporary full-time basis, until 05 December 2025 unless otherwise determined.

About The Role
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Act as the contact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents/carers and teachers to discuss aspects of attitudes and behaviour that adversely impacts on learning and educational programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student.
* Advise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents/carers and teachers on effective measures to address problems associated with attitudinal and/or behaviour problems in classrooms.
* Provide individual support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as required.
* Work with relevant departmental staff and community groups in providing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students exhibiting adverse attitudinal and/or behavioural problems that affect their learning.
Mandatory Requirements for an Identified Role:
It is a genuine occupational requirement for Identified roles that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.
Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage
For administrative purposes, in relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:
* of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
* accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.
By definition, a person who is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
Applicants to this position may have to provide confirmation of their Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage. Requesting proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage from applicants helps to make sure that this intention is honoured.
