We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives.The NSW Kids ECMO Referral Service (KERS) CNC will provide expert clinical service and consultancy relevant to neonates and children with severe critical illness that may benefit from extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy. Support and education are targeted to the needs of children and families and all clinicians involved in their care.The role provides a consultancy and educational focus for nurses, doctors and clinicians unfamiliar with the use of ECMO in the care of critical illness in children regardless of location in NSW Health and works closely with CNE and other roles in SCHN to foster a community of practice to enable excellent and timely delivery of ECMO support.The NSW KERS ECMO CNC will work in close collaboration with the NSW KERS Medical Director to help provide strategic leadership and governance oversight of the KERS service. The role works in collaboration with key stakeholders in the SCHN and NSW Health to promote safe and timely ECMO support to babies and children who may benefit and takes responsibility for system improvement initiatives including ongoing education and training, evaluation of clinical practice, data presentation and promotion of KERS in NSW Health.This is a dynamic role with opportunities to work with many stakeholders, both internal and external to the SCHN. The successful applicant will work with the KERS Medical Director and be integrated into the SCHN within a supportive framework.What you'll be doingThe Clinical Nurse / Midwife Consultant (CNC/CMC) will provide expert clinical care and education to children and their families within a defined specialty. The role provides a supportive consultancy and educational focus for nursing and medical stakeholders across NSW. In collaboration and consultation with key stakeholders, the CNC/CMC will undertake primary responsibility for on-going education, development and evaluation of clinical practice.Minimum Requirements:Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a minimum of 7 years full time post qualification experience, with at least five years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field.
