The Australian Government is seeking suitably qualified individuals for appointment as Independent Reviewer of Security Clearance Decisions and/or Independent Reviewer of Adverse Security Assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review security clearance decisions made by ASIO that are not eligible for external review through the Administrative Review Tribunal
* Communicate with affected individuals, Director-General of Security, and ASIO officers as necessary
* Provide written opinions on the reasonableness of reviewed decisions
* Protect and handle sensitive information
* Prepare statistics for ASIO's annual report
Independent Reviewer of Adverse Security Assessments:
* Conduct advisory reviews of adverse security assessments (ASAs) furnished by ASIO to Home Affairs
* Communicate with affected individuals, Director-General of Security, ASIO, and Home Affairs officers as necessary
* Provide written opinions on the appropriateness of ASAs and make recommendations
* Protect and handle sensitive information
* Prepare statistics for ASIO's annual report
Eligibility Criteria:
* Must be a legal practitioner with at least 7 years' experience or have equivalent subject matter expertise
* Cannot be an ASIO employee or affiliate
* Must hold or be able to obtain top-level security clearance
Application Information:
Candidates can apply for either or both positions. The successful candidate will be appointed for a period determined by the Attorney-General. Work can be undertaken in any Australian capital city, and some travel may be required. Remuneration will be based on qualifications and experience, paid on an hourly/daily fee basis.
