What is the focus of the role?
As the Delivery Excellence Lead, you will be accountable for leading the widespread adoption and ongoing improvement of fit-for-purpose delivery systems of work, practices, and behaviours across the Software Engineering & and IT Delivery and Operating Model. You will ensure agile principles and practices are implemented and embedded across the organisation to enable the design and delivery of customer-centric solutions at faster speed and higher quality while accelerating our T25 strategy to become a true ‘tech-co’ organisation modelled on best practice digital business models that integrate business and technology teams to deliver fully digital product and service capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Align strategic vision in collaboration with the Chapter Area Lead, inspiring the team with a realistic but ambitious vision.
* Work with the global CoE and global Chapter members to set best practice standards and mature Agile/DevOps team performance.
* Managed CoE resource allocation with CoE Leads, including recruitment and/or selection, to ensure the capability required is available and mitigate resourcing issues.
* Collaborate with Chapter Area Leaders and stakeholders to lead the software engineering strategy, defining software development standards, and designing, collaborating, and implementing innovative end-to-end architectural solutions across multiple domains.
* Actively write production-ready code where required that accounts for edge cases and errors, which can be used as examples of best practices by other engineers by being easily testable and understood.
* Personally use systematic debugging to diagnose all issues within a set of related domains to enable best practices.
* Foster a culture of observability for Chapter Type, across multiple teams and support their capability to use operational data to improve the stability and performance of domains.
* Oversee and advise on the design, build, and maintenance of multiple complex software application technologies and their interaction with Telstra processes and systems.
* Authentically engage with and influence a complex and multi-stakeholder landscape to support incorporation of customer needs across TSE into leading-edge software application products, services, or systems that meet Telstra’s time, cost, and quality standards.
* Lead the prioritisation of the Backlog against various business metrics to maximize business value.
* Take joint responsibility along with the Chapter Area Lead in building capability and managing the performance and development of CoE and Chapter members.
* Lead professional development for TSE resources.
* Develop best practice guidance to ensure the broader software engineering capability is world-class.
* Embed a culture of continuous improvement, by establishing a sustainable framework of continuous integration, quality assurance monitoring, and testing.
* Actively promote and contributing to a culture of learning and growth in the team.
* Lead the overall delivery outcomes of the CoE within Software Engineering, Software Engineering Practices, Shared Services, and Productivity CoE includes:
o Quality Engineering and Testing (AU/Ind)
o Release and Deployment (AU)
o Software Solution Engineering (AU/Ind)
o Tech Practices (Au/Ind)
o Solution Architecture (AU)
o Developer Tools (AU)
o Quality Engineering Practices (Ind)
About you
We’re looking for someone who has…
* Demonstrated expertise in large-scale program delivery, with a track record of successfully leading diverse teams.
* Proficiency in Project and Program Management tools and practices (e.g., Jira, Microsoft Project, etc.) and a willingness to adapt and learn new technologies.
* Advanced Agile Framework Proficiency – extensive expertise in Agile methodologies, including SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, Lean, and DevOps, and a commitment to promoting a collaborative and inclusive Agile environment.
* Extensive experience in Engineering and a well-rounded IT generalist background. Experience in automation scripting is highly desirable but not mandatory; we value a diverse range of technical skills.
* Proven leader with a strong commitment to fostering collaboration, influencing team members, and consistently delivering exceptional outcomes for Telstra. We encourage candidates with diverse leadership experiences to apply.
* Demonstrated strategic thinking and the ability to develop and execute plans that aligning with Telstra’s long-term objectives.
