Newcastle, Newcastle, Maitland & Hunter NSWManagement (Mining, Resources & Energy)Full timeThe OpportunityChief Project Officer (CPO)Reporting to and working with the CEO, the CPO will work with the COO (CTO) as one of three key executives based at the organisation’s new premises in the rapidly growing regional lifestyle centre of Newcastle, NSW.The thrust of this role is to take charge of project development and management, setting up the Demonstration Project and then developing additional projects to scale this well capitalised business.Project permitting, evaluating project opportunities, helping develop a project pipeline, contractor management and supporting the CEO, finance and engineering are central to this role, as is project management.The Ideal CandidateThe Ideal candidate will be looking for an opportunity to take on a role in a well-funded, well planned and largely technically sophisticated start-up company. They will want to make a difference, to help create and build sustainable, renewable energy technology, with a global market. They will understand that start-ups need individuals who leave their egos at the door. Individuals who will work with and in a team, often providing advice or help in areas separate to their core role, to ensure success.Responsibilities:Manage and ensure project permitting activities are progressed on time, and on budget, including managing contractors and consultants.Manage inbound pipeline and evaluating project development opportunities.Support the CEO in developing a medium and long term renewable energy project pipeline.Manage the delivery of project tender documents.Assist the other executive team members in ensuring the engineering and development program is delivered on time.Support the interface of engineering and commercial risk management, and technoeconomic optimisation.Support the CEO, and work with financial advisors to support the delivery of project financing activities, including debt, equity and grant funding activities.Support a broad range of business functions as is often required for a new start-up.Desired experience:The ideal candidate will have a STEM background and qualifications in that and or finance, management and projects.Ready to move into senior roles or already in them, the amount of experience the candidate has is flexible, weighed against the type of work successfully completed, and their aptitude to grow into and with this role.Prior experience in project development, and preferably energy/renewable energy project development.Experience in project management, ideally in large or complex capital projects.Experience managing and working with technical teams.Willingness and desire to “roll up their sleeves” and assist with various business activities and needs as they are required, even if this is outside their prior experience or comfort zone.Capable of directing and managing, as well as being hands on when and where needed.A contributor with a strong interest to support the team to make it happen.Flexible.
