This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the NIAA delegate. Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years. A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment; however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of that vision as you work in an engagement role across Greater Western Australia.
As an Engagement Officer or Senior Engagement Officer you will be located at one of three sites in Greater WA (Perth, Busselton, Geraldton or Hedland) and will be expected to travel and engage across the Greater WA. You will be allocated to one of the three GWA Engagement teams.
As an Engagement Officer or Senior Engagement Officer in the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) you will work in genuine partnership to enable the self-determination and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You will be part of a team working to influence change across government and ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a say in the decisions that affect them. Demonstrate strength-based engagement with Aboriginal communities and ACCOs to identify and address service gaps. Working in or in collaboration with State or Commonwealth Government agencies to deliver the priority reforms and/or outcomes of Closing the Gap.

All NIAA staff promote a healthy and safe workplace environment, and model ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values. The ability to travel, including overnight stays, is required and therefore a current Drivers Licence is essential.
The provision of temporary housing assistance may be available and will be assessed in accordance with policy.

This position has direct engagement with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers, or is involved in the development of programmes and policy. You will require a high level of cultural competency.
EligibilityTo be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen. The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check.
