Randstad are currently working with a Queensland Government Department to find a GIS Specialist/Analyst for an initial 8 Month Contract with potential of extension. This role is based in Brisbane city with WFH flexibility.
Role Purpose: This role will mitigate key areas of service delivery and reputational risk by building organisational capability and consistency in spatial data management processes and delivery of quality spatial information products. This will promote consistent use and representation of data and information so it can be used with confidence in decision making and to support response and incident management capability.
Key Duties:
* Advance the implementation and uptake of existing tools to get better visualization of data (maps and related reports).
* Increase the value of data through:
o Improved management of source data within the system so it can be used on maps easier and faster
o Making it easier to find and use the data needed to generate the map
o Improving maps usefulness to program areas by ongoing review and updating of available map layers and features to meet current needs.
* Develop capability across program areas in GIS practice so that better use of mapping can support activities.
* Develop a framework for use of GIS, including standardising tools, techniques, meta data capture, and data management.
* Collaborate with service providers and business areas about licencing, platforms, and technologies.
* Provide an essential mapping service during an emergency and incident responses and exercises.
The ideal candidate for this role will possess:
* 3 years plus experience in managing and using the ESRI suite of products.
* Demonstrated experience in strategic and operational spatial information.
* Experience working in geographically distributed public sector organisations.
* Demonstrated experience in managing, maintaining, and organising a large amount of spatial data and an understanding of data integrity and quality control issues.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including teamwork and working directly with clients, stakeholders and service providers.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
Desirable Criteria (not mandatory):
* Experience working in scientific, emergency response and/or disaster recovery organisations.
* Developing custom GIS applications and tools to meet specific project or user requirements.
* Providing training and technical support to GIS users within an organisation.
* Open layer experience.
* Experience working with GeoJSON and/or WKT formats.
