Public Sector People are working with a local council to recruit a Band 6 Planning Engineer for a 3-month temporary contract assignment.
We are looking for an experienced Planning Engineer to join our client, a forward-thinking local council in Victoria, committed to building thriving communities. Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare thorough responses to planning referrals, including the assessment and drafting of planning permit conditions.
* Evaluate the engineering aspects of planning permit applications in line with the Planning Scheme, Subdivision Act, and relevant engineering standards and guidelines.
* Assist in the assessment of Engineering Plans to ensure compliance with established standards.
* Review and process subdivision plans for certification, issuing Practical Completion and Statement of Compliance certificates in accordance with the Subdivision Act.
* Maintain detailed records by ensuring engineering planning documents are stored in authorised recordkeeping systems, in accordance with the council’s records management policy.
* Assist in developing, reviewing, and implementing policies and procedures related to engineering and planning.
* Assess Stormwater Management Plans, including on-site stormwater detention, stormwater quality treatment infrastructure, and traffic management reports.
* Deliver high levels of customer service by managing and responding to customer requests, ensuring timely follow-up, reporting, and resolution.
* Maintain efficient communication channels between the department and internal stakeholders, fostering effective collaboration.
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
* Degree or diploma and some relevant experience or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience.
* Demonstrated adequate experience in and knowledge of drainage design, traffic management and road safety structures.
* Strong understanding of planning principles and planning requirements.
* Demonstrated ability to engage and defend engineering requirements when challenged by either internal or external stakeholders.
* Highly effective customer service and communications skills both oral and written.
* Demonstrated ability to take ownership and manage own workload with minimal supervision, be proactive and implement technical solutions with a customer-focused approach.
