At Huon we strive to be the best, and that’s exactly who we’re looking for to fulfill the role of Technical Officer in our Fish Health department.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Fish Health Manager, you will be responsible for:
1. Undertaking sampling, health checks, and investigations at our marine or hatchery sites.
2. Coordinating the operation of hatcheries to promote fish health, taking into account environmental and market factors.
3. Enforcing animal welfare and biosecurity compliance within our operational teams.
4. Keeping up to date on salmon industry best practices
5. Working with research bodies to assist with data collection, analysis, and conclusive reporting of results for collaborative fish health projects.
6. Maintaining, monitoring, and evaluating records of farming activities and planning production accordingly.
7. Select, train, and supervise staff and contractors when required to raise awareness of the VHP.
8. Ensuring laboratories and fish health workstations are clean and well stocked, actively promoting best husbandry practices, assisting with gill checking activities as required and ensuring administrative tasks are seen through to completion.
Operating on a 7 days on, 7 days off roster, this role is offering a minimum annual salary of $70,000 + super. Located primarily at Huon’s Southern site, there will be regular travel to other Marine and Freshwater sites across Tasmania.
ABOUT YOU
9. You have adept communication skills and can build meaningful relationships.
10. You have experience in collecting and analysing data, communicating results in a clear and concise manner.
11. You are willing to help out other teams with operational or administrative tasks when required.
12. You contribute positively to a productive and friendly team environment.
13. You’re self-motivated with a track record of contributing to continuous improvement of systems and procedures.
14. You’re experienced and competent in the Microsoft Office suite.
15. You have a strong understanding of fish biology, water chemistry and marine and freshwater productions cycles.
16. A coxswains or experience on boats is desirable.
17. A current and valid drivers licence.
