About the branch
The Litigation & Dispute Resolution Branch comprises several legal teams that provide specialist legal services to government departments and statutory bodies on matters which are topical and often involve public interest issues.
The team of solicitors you'll be supporting manage diverse, complex and sensitive litigation including:
4. General civil, police civil and tortious claims
5. State care, personal injury and negligence claims (including historical institutional abuse claims involving former minors and young persons in the care of the State)
6. Coronial investigations including inquests
7. Supervision order matters
8. Judicial review and statutory interpretation
9. Contempt of court, defamation, injunctions and vexatious litigant applications
10. Commercial litigation
About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for an eager and enthusiastic Legal Assistant to join our Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch. The role will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of solicitors.
Responsibilities will include:
11. Preparing, formatting and reviewing legal documentation, including correspondence and court documents
12. Liaising with barristers' clerks and preparing briefs for counsel, inclusive of the collation of e-briefs
13. Filing and service of court documents via online platforms
14. Autonomous file management - conduct of matter related tasks, monthly billing and maintaining efficient and effective electronic files
15. Calendar and mailbox management
16. General administration duties
The successful candidate will have previous legal support (administrative) experience, preferably within a litigation environment. This role will provide you with the opportunity to take ownership and build a long-term career, with great development and progression opportunities. You will also have the opportunity to work on, and contribute to, high profile matters of public interest.
Skills and experience
17. Demonstrated experience in a similar litigation legal assistant role
18. Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
19. Demonstrable capability in providing high quality assistance to a team of solicitors, in a deadline driven and fast paced environment
20. Strong understanding of legal processes and court jurisdictions, legal terminology and an ability to conduct research using online databases and systems
21. Self-starter who takes initiative with advanced skills in problem solving
22. Excellent attention to detail, with a commitment to service excellence
