headspace provides support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. We are creating a multidisciplinary team at headspace Shellharbour work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.
Grand Pacific Health is a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation and is the lead agency of both headspace centres. We provide locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services from 25 locations across NSW and the ACT.
About the position
If you are passionate about Youth Mental Health and want to make a positive difference to the lives of young people and their families, we would love for you to join our team as a Youth Access Worker (Identified opportunity)!
As a Youth Access Worker, you will be a welcoming friendly face and first point of contact for young people and their family seeking support from headspace Shellharbour. You'll play a key role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people by conducting assessments, triaging appropriate referrals, and in conjunction with the headspace team, coordinating their journey to the right support and treatment including providing short term counselling interventions to help the young person get started on their path to well-being.
This position will also provide outreach services and support community engagement opportunities as required to expand our reach and enhance access to our services.
This role is a full-time opportunity to 30 June 2025 with possibility of extension. We can be flexible on preferred hours worked.

We are looking for someone with:
1. An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and be an active member within the local Aboriginal community
2. Qualifications or working towards, in a relevant field including youth work, community welfare, social work, psychology, peer work, occupational therapy, counselling or other related qualifications or demonstrated experience in a similar role
3. Demonstrated understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of young people, and a passion for providing support to them.
4. Experience in providing counselling services to young people and their families.
