We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Building Surveyor/Team Leader to join the Building Control Services Team.
In this pivotal role, you will lead a team of building surveyors while overseeing complex projects and ensuring compliance with relevant Victorian building control legislation, codes and standards, local laws, policies, guidelines and Ministerial Guidelines.
What you'll be doing: Carry out duties, functions and responsibilities of the Municipal Building Surveyor under and in accordance with the relevant instrument of delegation issued by the Municipal Building Surveyor Provide efficient, effective, cooperative and professional support to the Municipal Building Surveyor and Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor Lead and mentor a team of building surveyors, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality work and timely project completion Assistance with or preparation of Council reports or other building control related reports.
To appear, represent and provide expert witness evidence in Building Appeals Board and Court proceedings.
Attend to building control enquiries, investigations and "Emergency Callouts" in accordance with relevant building control legislation, rosters and policies.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets Liaise with clients, contractors, and local authorities to address building-related issues and ensure compliance with regulations Stay up-to-date with the latest building codes, regulations, and industry best practices Implement and maintain quality control processes for all surveying activities Contribute to business development efforts by identifying new opportunities and maintaining client relationships Collaborate with other departments to enhance overall organisational efficiency and effectiveness The skills and experience you'll bring to the role: Bachelor's degree in Building Surveying Registration as a Building Surveyor-Unlimited with the Victorian Building Authority Minimum of 5 years of experience in building surveying, with a proven track record of successful project management Previous team leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to motivate and develop staff In-depth knowledge of the Building Act, Regulations and Building Code of Australian Proficiency in building surveying techniques, construction standards, and sustainable building practices Excellent report writing skills and attention to detail Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders at all levels Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with industry trends Current driver's licence Why Hume City Council?
