APS6 Senior Policy Officer - Human Resources (9602) Canberra, Australia
Our client provides services to support the efficient conduct of Parliament Representatives, its committees and certain joint committees, and also provides a range of services and facilities for Members.
The successful candidate will help drive this purpose by providing technical Human Resources and Workplace Relations advice; assisting in the delivery of HR strategies and business improvement programs; and interpreting, developing and implementing HR and WR policies and frameworks, working under limited direction.
We are seeking a Senior Policy Officer who can clearly demonstrate well-developed written and oral communication skills, initiative, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within and across teams. They will also need to set and deliver against work priorities and possess excellent time management skills. The candidate should be client-focused, highly motivated, adaptable to the department’s environment, and demonstrate the ability to build and maintain relationships across the organisation.
The successful applicant will also demonstrate well-developed technical HR and/or WR knowledge and experience in one or more relevant disciplines.
Key responsibilities and duties:
* Research, interpret and draft relevant portions of enterprise agreements and determinations, employment contracts, policies and procedures.
* Provide consistent, accurate and timely advice and support on a broad range of issues including employment legislation, diversity and inclusion, staff wellbeing, WHS, performance management, and learning and development.
* Assist with the scheduled review of policies and procedures to ensure they remain fit for purpose and reflect staff feedback and the latest developments in people management.
* Establish networks and maintain relationships at all levels across the department.
* Support, coordinate, and contribute to the effective design and delivery of HR projects.
* Support high-level evidence-based advice on workforce planning and the development and implementation of organisational people strategies.
* Knowledge and experience in the provision and delivery of complex technical advice in HR/WR disciplines.
* The ability to research, interpret and analyse employment instruments, legislation and policy frameworks, and provide advice on workable solutions.
* Strong judgement, initiative, and organisational skills, including time management skills.
* Highly developed stakeholder engagement and management capabilities.
* Well-developed communication skills including the ability to draft all manner of written material including policies and procedures, advice to management and staff, and intranet content, and provide efficient and effective secretariat services as required.
