About the opportunity
The RFS is a global leader in fire and emergency services. This is an outstanding opportunity to lead the State Operations function for the world’s largest volunteer fire service. The RFS is a purpose-driven organisation, supporting approx. 70,000 dedicated volunteers to protect their communities. We work proactively to prepare for, prevent, and protect our citizens from the impact of bush fire and other emergencies. The Director State Operations drives the strategic delivery of operational initiatives and oversees emergency response, manages business operations, and prepares the RFS for the future. The State Operations team supports RFS operational capabilities to protect the community and our environment by minimising the impact of fire and other emergencies.
Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner Field Operations, the Director State Operations will be responsible for:
1. Providing strategic and operational expertise during fire season, ensuring optimal allocation of resources throughout;
2. Ensuring the RFS is adequately prepared to address the operational challenges of fire season, in collaboration with your colleagues and partner agencies;
3. Ensuring professional currency with global best practice in emergency services settings;
4. Proactively anticipating present and future requirements to deliver a globally recognised level of operational proficiency;
5. Extending the operational capability beyond firefighting to support other agencies and jurisdictions, in line with RFS strategic intent;
6. Leading a diverse team, providing comprehensive support for the RFS firefighting responsibilities throughout NSW.

To be eligible for consideration for this role you must have:
1. Significant emergency management leadership experience at a senior level.
2. A Degree in a relevant discipline (Management, Emergency Management).
