As Senior Corporate Counsel (Australia), this is a greenfields opportunity where you'll report directly to the General Counsel in the US and will be responsible for leading the legal function in Australia.
You'll play a critical role in managing the company's legal affairs locally while collaborating with cross-functional teams globally.

Key Responsibilities: Set Up and Lead the Legal Function in Australia : Establish and manage the legal function, ensuring that the company is well-supported in its strategic and operational objectives.
Create Legal Policies and Procedures : Develop contract templates, negotiation playbooks, and legal policies that streamline processes, enable innovation, and ensure compliance.
Legal Support for All Areas of Business : Oversee legal work related to commercial contracts, employment, industrial relations, regulatory compliance, and board-related matters.
Train and Advise Internal Teams : Provide training on a variety of legal issues and act as a trusted adviser to internal teams, ensuring legal considerations are embedded in business decisions.
Support Strategic Business Initiatives : Offer legal and strategic advice on complex and strategic issues, helping the company navigate its ambitious growth goals.
Negotiate and Manage Commercial Agreements : Manage commercial contracts, particularly related to construction, partnerships, and supply chains.
Risk Management : Work with senior management to provide regular insights into the company's legal risk profile and offer proactive legal guidance.
External Legal Counsel Management : Manage and collaborate with external legal counsel in Australia, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal support.
Ideal Candidate: Experience : Significant post-qualification experience (at least 8 years), preferably within a large or medium-sized corporate or commercial law firm or in-house legal role.
Industry Experience : Strong experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements within the construction, projects, finance or technology sector.
Legal Expertise : A strong background in corporate law, regulatory compliance, and contract law, with the ability to handle complex legal challenges in a fast-growing company.
Communication & Leadership Skills : Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to break down complex legal issues into clear and actionable advice for non-legal teams.
Strategic and Pragmatic : Ability to think strategically and balance the need for compliance with a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to enable business growth.
Qualifications : A relevant tertiary qualification in law and a current Australian Practicing Certificate.
Confidentiality : Experience in handling highly confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
Leadership : Proven ability to lead a growing legal function and work effectively across different teams in a global environment.
