Why We Need You!
Join us at Northern Tablelands Local Land Services (NTLLS), the Regional Delivery Partner for the Australian Government's National Heritage Trust (NHT) program. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced First Nations engagement specialist to play a pivotal role in fostering meaningful connections with First Nations people and organisations throughout the Northern Tablelands.
What You Will Be Responsible For:
As a First Nations Cultural Broker, you will contribute to the improvement and implementation of our Indigenous and Participation Plan (IPP) and actively support the delivery of First Nations-related projects.. Your role will involve building and strengthening connections and enhancing cultural competency in the delivery ofsustainable agricultural practices and natural resource management.
Key Responsibilities:
5. Community Building: Establish and fortify connections with First Nations people and NTLLS and other organisations throughout the Northern Tablelands, fostering trust and collaboration.
6. Cultural Inclusion Strategies: Develop and implement culturally appropriate strategies to increase First Nations engagement and participation in significant projects.
7. Enhancing Cultural Competency: Share information and knowledge to enhance cultural competency within NTLLS. First Nations connections will assist in addressing barriers and building meaningful partnerships which will lead to First Nations leadership in the delivery of projectsIPP Enhancement: Collaborate internally to enhance and update the Indigenous Participation Plan (IPP)
8. NHT Implementation: Lead the implementation of First Nations-related requirements in the National Heritage Trust program and Strong Culture Healthy Country project, including engagement, co-design activities, and adherence to Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property clauses
9. Employment and Leadership Support: Support initiatives to increase First Nations employment and leadership, emphasising knowledge transfer and capacity building.
10. Target Achievement: Assist in meeting First Nations employment and supplier use targets and aspirations.
11. Communication Channels: Establish and enhance communication channels between First Nations communities and NTLLS, facilitating regular calls, meetings, and site visits.
12. Mutual Benefit Identification: Identify areas of mutual benefit between the First Nations community and NTLLS, promoting sustainable agriculture practices and Natural Resource Management planning.
13. Constraint Identification: Identify and address constraints, whether logistical, time-related, technical, capacity-related, or cultural, to enhance First Nations people's participation.
Essential requirements:
14. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1997
15. Proven experience in community engagement and collaboration with First Nations people and organisations.
16. Cultural competency training or equivalent experience.
17. Current NSW Class C Driver Licence and the ability and willingness to travel
