Your new role
We are seeking a talented and passionate UX/UI Designer to join our dynamic team at Curtin University. In this role, you will play a crucial part in revolutionising the digital experience for prospective students and key audiences.
Under the guidance of the Project Lead, Digital Experience you'll support driving the digital deliverables for Phase 2 of the Advancing Admissions Project. In Phase 1, this project introduced a new applicant portal and system integrations to simplify Curtin’s application process. Your focus will be on further enhancing the application experience, ensuring a seamless, easy-to-navigate journey from application to admission.
To ensure alignment with Curtin's digital experience strategy and earlier stages of the future student journey, you'll be required to co-locate between both the project team and the Digital Experience team. The Digital Experience team, who are led by the Deputy Director, Digital Experience, are responsible for crafting leading digital experiences that delight and empower future students on their journey towards personal growth and meaningful impact.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
* Align project objectives and user-needs: Gain a deep understanding of Phase 1 outcomes for the Advancing Admissions project, collaborating closely with the project team to analyse the business case and user stories. Guided by the Digital Experience Project Lead, leverage these insights to shape a digital experience for Phase 2 that stays true to both project goals and user expectations.
* Implement UX best practices: Ensure project outputs comply with Curtin's Digital Experience and Style Guidelines, relevant legislation, policies, and brand guidelines.
* Research & Analysis: Conduct user research to identify pain points, behaviours, and preferences, using data to prioritize journey mapping and design solutions that align with project goals and enhance multi-platform experiences.
* Journey Mapping: Design comprehensive user journeys that address identified pain points and align to the projects must have user stories, ensuring smooth transitions across touchpoints and reducing friction in key user flows.
* Prototyping & Testing: Develop interactive prototypes and gather feedback to refine solutions, ensuring they effectively address user frustrations and meet project objectives.
* Develop wireframes and prototypes: Create high-fidelity prototypes and user flows for web and mobile applications, ensuring visually appealing interfaces that enhance customer journeys.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Work closely with the project team, marketing, DTS, and stakeholders to gather user needs and business requirements while presenting designs effectively.
We are looking for someone with:
* A relevant degree and experience in user experience design for web & mobile applications and digital products; or an equivalent combination or relevant experience and/or education/training.
* Expertise working with UX applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma and Invision.
* Strong conceptualisation skills with the ability to develop wireframes/storyboards, user flows, process flows and user interface designs and interactive prototypes. Exceptional visual communication skills and eye for detail with strong conceptualisation ability and design skills.
* Demonstrated collaboration, presentation and communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Demonstrated understanding of usability principles, digital accessibility standards and inclusive design best practice.
* A strong sense of time management, deadlines, and the ability to adapt diverse challenges and competing priorities.
* Good level of understanding of online technologies (eg. HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and latest UX best practices.
* Accredited qualification in User Experience, Interaction Design (Desirable).
* Strong design portfolio with an emphasis on large scale site designs and product roadmaps (Desirable).
* Experience in incorporating UX in the AGILE methodology (Desirable).
Work Requirements:
* Must have current work rights in Australia matching the tenure of the role.
* Based in Perth, WA or have confirmed plans to relocate. Relocation and sponsorship support are not available.
