Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Surgical & Endoscopy Access Unit within the RHH facilitates the patient journey from surgical outpatient clinics on to elective surgical and endoscopy waiting lists, preparing patients for procedures in conjunction with all surgical specialties and the Department of Anaesthetic & Perioperative Medicine.
The Role
The Elective Surgery Access Nurse (ESAN):
* Strengthens health outcomes through the provision of safe, quality, clinically appropriate nursing care, in partnership with patients/clients, their families, and other health professionals.
* Supports the designated specialty unit/s and coordinates the patient elective surgery & endoscopy care pathway.
* Is guided by policy, protocol and procedures developed and authorised by Department of Health (DoH) and the Department of Anaesthesia & Perioperative Services.
* Has a key role in ensuring that patients arrive on the day of their procedure with all relevant documentation completed and a plan of care in place.
* Works on a day to day basis with the specialty unit and liaises closely with the relevant Perioperative Units. The ESAN assists in the active, safe and consistent management of elective surgery & endoscopy waiting lists in accordance with the Planned Surgery Access Policy & Operational Standards.
You will need:
* High level of knowledge and skills combined with significant experience in acute surgical nursing. Knowledge and understanding of pre-admission, admission, discharge and waiting list management principles.
* Advanced level of communication skills: Individuals will demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate, negotiate and collaborate with members of multidisciplinary teams, diverse stakeholders, patients and their families, including the ability to address conflict and resolve disputes.
* Patient Focus: Individuals will consistently and enthusiastically deliver high levels of patient service demonstrated by the provision of prompt, efficient and personalised service, responding to patient needs and a commitment to delivering high quality outputs.
Details of appointment:
Permanent part time, day worker position, working 50 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $78,179 to $105,995 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
Access to the Grade 4 salary range $99,455- $105,995 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
* Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type.

* Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
