About Tasmania Government About the Tasmanian State Service The Tasmanian State Service (TSS) is the largest employer in Tasmania, with over 28,000 employees providing services to the Tasmanian community at all levels.Respecting diversity is the foundation of everything that the Department of Health does.This allows us to instil trust and collaborate through honest and fair communication and helps cultivate an environment of growth and innovation.We strongly encourage applicants from key communities including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, LGBTIQA+ people, and people living with disabilities.The Role: Undertake accurate clinical coding by interpreting and abstracting relevant clinical information from medical records and other clinical information systems.Assign codes within the operational guidelines of the current edition of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM), Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) and Australian Coding Standards (ACS).Ensure that clinical coding data is completed and entered into the hospital patient administration system, utilising clinical coding and grouping software, and in accordance with required coding benchmarks.Analyse and verify that the required clinical documentation is present for each inpatient episode and where appropriate, follow up/liaise with clinical staff for clarification where insufficient detail is documented.Validate the accuracy of Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) allocation, including review of cost weight, length of stay (LOS), and Episode Clinical Complexity Score (ECCS) data for all inpatient episodes coded.Participate in clinical coding quality improvement activities, including coding audits, data quality audits, research project audits and other coding quality activities as required. The Team: The Tasmanian Health Service (THS) is seeking experienced and qualified Clinical Coders to join its state-wide Clinical Coding team.The team utilises a state-wide PAS, a hybrid digital-scanned health record along with other state-wide clinical information systems.The successful candidate/s will be able to demonstrate clinical coding qualifications and experience in a health service with casemix comparable to that of the THS.Details of Appointment: Permanent, full time, day work, position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 09 December, 2024.*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant.Part time and Casual work patterns will also be considered.Your primary work location may be located in the Southern, Northern or North Western Region.Flexible work options may be negotiated with the successful applicant.Base Salary: $79,529 to $91,517 per annum.Our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.Desirable Criteria: Clinical Coder certification as approved by the Health Information Management Association of Australia.Clinical Coding experience in a tertiary level hospital.
