We are looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated and energetic Education Assistants that seek exciting and rewarding challenges. As Special Needs Education Assistants at Leda ESC, you would embrace our whole school vision of ‘Every Child, Every Opportunity’ for all students and the School Priorities of Literacy, Numeracy, Communication, Positive Behaviour Support, Aboriginal Education and Protective Behaviours.
Suitable applicants will work under general supervision and guidance, performing under limited direction and involve judgment in achieving clearly defined outcomes as determined by the teacher. The ideal applicants should be able to apply techniques, skills and knowledge of relevant principles and practices acquired through previous experience, on the job learning, or relevant qualifications. They will ideally have experience across a range of disabilities in a primary school environment dealing with primary students, combined with a flexible and friendly approach with good interpersonal skills.
Suitable applicants will ideally be genuine innovators that are prepared to be flexible. It is important to have the ability to look beyond behaviour to the deeper reasons for the behaviour. Sound knowledge in Augmented Alternative Communication (AAC) and effectively being a communication partner is desired.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
1. Effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
2. Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
3. Ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
4. Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
5. Effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
6. Ability to assist with the general health and well being of students.

13. Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
14. Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
15. Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
16. complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
