We are looking for a couple of passionate and experienced Ecologists / Botanists to join our well-established national team of ecological experts.
The role location is flexible between Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast offices. We also have similar opportunities in Sydney, Newcastle and Perth .
The opportunity
You will be part of a national team of experts, including botanists, zoologists, environmental planners, scientists, and engagement specialists, and work on multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
Your role will primarily be to undertake fieldwork and prepare environmental reports to assist clients with planning approvals, ecological impact assessments, targeted threatened species surveys, ecological management plans, offset management plans and ecological monitoring.
Day to day, you will:
1. Conduct flora surveys within south-east Queensland
2. Continue to build your knowledge of vegetation rehabilitation and monitoring techniques
3. Contribute to the planning of projects, including meeting deadlines and budgets
4. Build strong relationships with clients and actively participate in writing project proposal
5. Complete the Queensland Herbariums BioCondition and Regional Ecosystem training
6. Commit to your on-going professional development including membership of scientific organisations, involvement with environment groups, attendance at workshops, conferences etc.
7. Mentor graduates and assist with their learning and professional growth
About you
You have studied an Environmental or Natural Science discipline such as ecology, botany, biology, or similar discipline.
You're likely to have previous consulting/advisory experience in biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting.
You will also bring the following experience and attributes:
8. Field experience such as flora surveys, ecological monitoring, plant species and threatened ecological community identification, etc.
9. Plant identification skills in the Southeast Queensland area
10. Knowledge of biodiversity legislation and policy, specifically the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Vegetation Management Act 1999
11. Experience with field survey design, field data collection, mapping and use of survey guidelines for flora
12. Experience in GIS, field mapping and developing and managing spatial datasets
13. Have a passion for ecology, conservation, biodiversity and natural resources management
