Role Overview:
As a Desktop Estimator, you will play a key role in supporting the claims process by producing accurate and comprehensive estimates for building repairs and damages.
You will work closely with claims handlers, assessors, and contractors to ensure that the appropriate costs are calculated and that the claims process runs smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
* Review and assess property damage reports, photographs, and related documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for repairs.
* Use industry-standard software and databases to generate estimates for building work, including materials, labor, and associated costs.
* Liaise with internal teams, insurers, and contractors to clarify requirements, resolve discrepancies, and update estimates where necessary.
* Ensure all estimates comply with insurance policy terms and conditions.
* Maintain and update accurate records of all estimates and correspondence.
* Assist with the development and implementation of estimating guidelines and procedures.
* Provide technical advice and expertise to support claims handlers in the assessment of building-related claims.
* Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, regulations, and cost changes.
Key Requirements:
* Proven experience in estimating within the building insurance or construction industry.
* Strong knowledge of building repair processes and materials.
* Experience using estimating software (e.g., Symbility, Xactware, or similar).
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of estimating.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
* A background in building construction, surveying, or insurance would be advantageous.
* A strong understanding of insurance terminology and claims procedures is desirable but not essential.
