Expressions of interest are now open for an all women TBM crew - the Suburban Connect is launching a training program for women interested in kick starting a new, well paid career in construction!
The Suburban Connect consortium, comprising CPB Contractors, ACCIONA and Ghella, have been selected by the Victorian Government to deliver the first major tunnelling package on the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East project.
The package includes construction of a 16-kilometre section of the project’s twin tunnels, including tunnelling between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley, 55 safety cross passages between the tunnels, station boxes at Clayton and Monash and the construction of portals – the entrances and exits to the tunnels – at the stabling facility.
About the Opportunity
In a world first, an all-women Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) crew will be part of the team building Suburban Rail Loop (SRL).
Suburban Connect and Suburban Rail Loop is helping train the next generation of highly skilled Victorian workers, and will help attract more women into the construction and tunnelling industry.
The all-women TBM crew will be working on the SRL East section of twin tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley.
Tunnelling will start in 2026, and the all-women crew is expected to be tunnelling by 2027.
The all-women TBM crew will have a range of roles – each will require a specific skill set. All qualifications, training, and certifications needed to perform these roles will be provided as part of this program.
The initial phase of developing the all-women TBM crew will involve a comprehensive training program, with the selected women getting hands on experience from other tunnelling projects to ensure all aspects of safely and efficiently operating TBMs are developed.
Following this comprehensive training – we will launch the world-first All-Women TBM crew of certified, qualified, trained and experienced women to operate one of our TBM’s.
Expressions of Interest are now open and close on Friday 4 October.
We strongly encourage women with various levels of tunnelling and construction experience interested in registering their interest to do it now!
Come and join a new team passionate about delivering quality infrastructure and enhancing the communities in which we work.
We support diversity in the workplace. Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and people with a multicultural background are strongly encouraged to apply.
