The technical support is aligned with chemistry based disciplines and assists the Technical Services Coordinator in the area.As the Technical Officer you will collaborate with other locations within the school coordinating support efforts and will also have some contact with external organisations for sourcing of supplies. This role will suit a problem solver, well organised individual with the ability to make decisions and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities concurrently.As the Technical Officer, Chemistry, you will:In consultation with available sources gather relevant technical information and seek the expertise and advice of other people as appropriate, to provide technical and research support to practical teaching and research programs of the school to ensure classes run smoothly and that the laboratories and materials are cleaned afterwards.Provide technical expertise in the operation and maintenance of specialised instrumentation in the discipline area and prepare materials for classes.Promote and apply Occupational Health and Safety standards especially those involving research and teaching laboratory activities.Coordinate materials and equipment requirements of staff and students for the running of practical teaching classes.Maintain stock control procedures in conjunction with the Senior Technical Officer.To be successful, you’ll have:Completion of a Bachelor of Science Degree with majors in a suitable chemistry based science without subsequent relevant work experience; orCompletion of an Associate Diploma and demonstrated subsequent relevant work experience; orAn equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.Experience working in a related field or discipline in higher education or a similar large complex environment.Good knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety principles and an understanding of the requirements for safety when working with biological and chemical hazards.Here's how to apply:Please submit your updated resume along with a brief cover letter outlining your relevant skills and experience by clicking the 'Apply' button.For a confidential discussion regarding this role, please contact Khanh Tran, Technical Coordinator, Chemistry on khanh.tran@deakin.edu.au.For a copy of the position description, please see below:Applications for this position close at 11.55pm on the 21st of February.Are You Ready?Deakin is a Victorian university with a global impact.
