The PositionThe Director of Medical Services:works as a team member within Office of the Executive Director of Medical Services, Northwest Hospital and Health Service. has a particular focus on the leadership, administration and management of remote facility medical models of care including but not limited to College accreditation, recruitment and retention of rural generalist trainees, and is the clinical lead for implementation of Queensland Health funded medical workforce initiatives. is expected to improve their skills in medical management with the aim of developing specialist skills in the field. o is expected to develop an understanding of strategic and operational coordination in the planning and management of Medical Services which enables the provision of quality, safe patient care. The position is a training position accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) subject to College guidelines on training and education https://racma.edu.au/training/fellowship- training-program/. Duties of the role are defined at the beginning of each term through interview with the term supervisor, preferably with the preceptor in attendance, where possible. The competencies expected of different levels of Registrar are to be considered in accordance with RACMA training requirements and the assessment and decision about work activities is based on prior experience in medical management and the facility’s requirements.This is an STP-IRTP funded position so is suitable for those with a genuine interest to work in rural areas and commit to spending at least two-thirds of their total RACMA Fellowship training in a rural (MMM2-7).Health ServiceThe North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS) is responsible for delivering public hospital and other health services to the communities of North West Queensland. We serve a population of around 32,000 people, distributed across 300,000 square kilometres, providing services across one regional hospital, two multipurpose health services, three remote hospitals, four primary health clinics and five community health centres.The North West HHS services the remote communities within North Western Queensland and the Gulf of Carpentaria. We have a diverse Health Service that offers a variety of lifestyles: Coastal beachside living at Karumba and Normanton Remote island living at Mornington Island Rural outback in Mount Isa Outback remote living at Doomadgee, Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Camooweal, Dajarra, Burketown and McKinlayThe LocationMount Isa, QueenslandEssential CriteriaThe position requires the applicant to hold current general registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA Specialist registration in another specialty would be highly regarded. As a STP-IRTP funded position the applicant must be a current RACMA Candidate or have applied for Candidacy for the RACMA Fellowship Training Program (FTP). The position ideally suits a more experienced RACMA trainee with demonstrated progression through the training pathway. Certified Copies of the required qualifications must be provided prior to appointment and prior to the commencement of clinical duties. Appointment to this position requires proof of ongoing candidacy on the RACMA fellowship training program.
