The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Senior Safety Advisor to join our team in Kununurra to provide leadership and specialist expertise to ensure the successful delivery of work, health, safety and wellbeing initiatives and programs in safety management across the Shire. This role supports the Shire in developing and delivering a safety and wellbeing improvement program and WHS Management System to continuously improve the Shire's safety culture. The Advisor is required to deliver high quality safety practices, build strong working relationships across the organisation and positively promote the organisation at all times. Your responsibilities will include:
Lead, coach and mentor Shire employees to build a safety culture of proactive identification and management of risk, and continuous improvement of the Shire's WHS Management System; Implement the Shire's WHS Management Plan and manage divisional specific initiatives consistent with the plan; Provide expert technical advice and support, specific direction and/or manage safety project activities, including ensuring major projects are undertaken with highest standards of safety performance; Lead and facilitate an internal WHS audit program to support ongoing compliance and safety improvement; Manage all Workers Compensation claims and injury management with internal and external stakeholders; Provide sound investigative advice and support to ensure identified critical incidents are investigated with the highest level of diligence and confidentiality; Develop and deliver WHS policies, procedures, training programs and broader learning and development initiatives as they relate to WHS and Wellbeing; Implement WHS management strategies, frameworks and processes for critical risk management; Provide strategic and operational advice to the leadership team to ensure safe, reliant and compliant operations. Professional qualifications (degree level) in a relevant field, such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science or related field and current unrestricted WA "C" Class Driver's Licence are essential for this role.
You will also need excellent understanding of relevant legislation, regulations and requirements, demonstrated experience in delivering a WHS management system, extensive experience in a health, safety, environment, and quality role, significant practical leadership and management experience, high level communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to deliver complex WHS technical information, well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills and proficient use in Microsoft products and safety management software.
Salary and Benefits
Working for SWEK means that in addition to the competitive annual salary package between $140,000 - $145,000 (inclusive of allowances and superannuation, dependent on skills and experience), you may also enjoy a range of benefits including:
