About the position
The Violet Vines Marshman Centre for Rural Health Research (VVMCRHR) is based at the La Trobe Rural Health School. The La Trobe University Rural Health School is the largest rural health school in Australia with over 4000 students enrolled across 14 disciplines at our regional campuses of Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo, Mildura, and Shepparton.
The VVMCRHR is based in Bendigo and was established in December 2019 following a large philanthropic investment from the VV Marshman Charitable Trust. The Centre continues to grow and attract new researchers, HDR students and post-doctoral and requires a Senior Administration Officer to provide high-level administrative support for the Centre.
Reporting to the VVMCRHR Director, the incumbent will provide high-level administrative and operational support to facilitate the Centre Director's ability to effectively lead the Centre. The position has responsibility for a range of high profile and complex matters requiring the ability to exercise considerable judgement, initiative, discretion and independence.
Duties will involve planning, implementation, operational liaison, budget management, preparation of annual reports and management of the Centres Partnership Funding Scheme. It also requires some communications/marketing support including the management and updating of the Centre's website and other media communications. External partner engagement will be crucial in this role.
Duties will include but not limited to:
Facilitate and provide secretarial support for meetings, including 6-monthly VVM Advisory Committee meetings, 3-monthly VVM Management Committee meetings, 3-monthly Rural Health Consumer Panel Advisory Committee meetings, 'RISE4 Skin Cancer' meetings (project team, Governance group and Advisory Committee) and monthly VVM team meetings.
Coordinate VVM events, including ad hoc seminars and the annual VVM oration.
Develop and maintain the research Centre website/blog and or social media presence.
Provide the Director with monthly budget reports.
Facilitate VVM credit card acquittals.
Set up and maintain calendars by scheduling staff meetings and booking rooms.
Develop and prepare regular newsletters and the annual report in consultation with the Research Office and senior staff of the VVMCRHR.
This role is required to work on site a minimum of 3 days per week.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have:
Degree with subsequent relevant experience to consolidate the theories and principles learned, or extensive experience, leading to either the development of specialist expertise or to the development of broad knowledge in an administrative field, or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
Demonstrated ability to gain a conceptual understanding of relevant policies, procedures or systems and interpretation in the application of policy and/or precedent.
Ability to innovate and take responsibility for outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to set priorities and monitor workflows within own area of responsibility.
Proven analytical and problem-solving capability.
Proven communication and interpersonal skills.
Some knowledge of the requirements needed for engaging with academic stakeholders who may have contrary expectations and perceptions.
