About the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section)
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is one of the world's largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations. The RFDS in Queensland provides excellence in and access to primary health care and aeromedical services across the state. Our emergency retrieval service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, delivering the finest care to more than 330,000 Australians each year, that’s one person every two minutes! In addition to aeromedical retrievals of the critically ill or injured, the RFDS also delivers a broad range of essential primary and preventative healthcare services, including telehealth, mental health, oral health and health promotion.
About the Positions:
* Cairns Base Location
* Permanent, Part time roles available
* Shift pattern: 2 days + 2 nights per 4-week roster (0.25 FTE)
Note: This is not a fly-in-fly-out position. Applicants must be based locally or willing to relocate.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) are currently seeking dedicated doctors interested in Aeromedical Retrieval and Telehealth roles to join our esteemed Cairns Base team. Established in 1972, the RFDS Cairns Base stands as one of the largest and longest-serving bases within our network.
As an RFDS Aeromedical Doctor you will provide lifesaving retrieval and pre-hospital medical services alongside highly respected aviation and flight nurse teams. In this role, you will:
* Provide telehealth services to patients needing urgent medical care in remote locations
* Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to perform Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ) taskings including- emergency retrievals and inter-facility transfers
* Liaise with RSQ, Duty Tasking Officers and referring/receiving facilities to coordinate aeromedical retrievals
* Conduct handovers to care providers
* Provide advice to nurses and other health professionals
* Participate in quality improvement activities such as clinical audits and case reviews
* Maintain accurate medical records
* Contribute to the overall strategic goals of the RFDS (QLD Section)
* Respect cultural diversity including the traditional Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander, view of health
Who are we looking for?
To be successful in this role you will have:
* Registration with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner
* Fellowship of ACEM, ACRRM, ANZCA, CICM or RACGP (Senior Registrars are encouraged to apply)
* Minimum 5 years of post-graduate experience
* Sufficient experience in critical care medicine to meet credentialing requirements with QLD Health (Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Intensive Care and Paediatrics).
o Emergency experience ≥ 6 months
o Anaesthesia experience ≥ 6 months
o Intensive Care experience≥ 6 months
o Paediatrics or basic obstetric experience
* Previous experience in Aeromedical Retrieval is ideal but is not a requirement
