Situated less than an hour north of Adelaide, The Barossa Council seeks to enhance the region and its unique lifestyle, heritage and community spirit and strives to provide high quality services and facilities to a growing population including the major towns of Mount Pleasant, Nuriootpa, Tanunda, Lyndoch, Williamstown and Angaston, as well as many smaller community townships.Reporting to the Deputy CEO/Director Corporate Services, Strategy and Innovation, this important role will be responsible for economic development and strategy, customer experience, visitor economy and events and the communications and marketing teams. Key responsibilities include:providing input into strategic leadership across the organisation and ensuring effective day to day management of the Economic Activation, Strategy and Customer Relations portfolios;providing strategic direction and vision for economic development initiatives, overseeing their implementation and maintaining, reviewing and implementing the Local Economic Development Plan;identifying investment opportunities, attracting investment and building strong relationships with key stakeholders including business, government agencies, community organisations, educational institutions and not for profit organisations;fostering sustainable growth in the Barossa Region's tourism sector and associated businesses;overseeing Council's event management policies, processes and evaluation;developing, implementing and improving Council's communications strategy and delivering effective marketing campaigns and promotional materials;leading, managing, developing and motivating the dedicated Economic Activation, Strategy and Customer Relations teams;overseeing and continuously improving the provision of a contemporary customer experience including face to face, telephone, online and web-based service delivery;proactively being accountable for the performance of the portfolio's outputs, outcomes, budget activity and financial results.Applications are encouraged from appropriately qualified senior professionals from a range of professional disciplines with experience in a similarly complex and diverse role. Highly developed leadership, networking, negotiating, communication, facilitation, problem solving and conflict resolution skills will be important as will a comprehensive understanding of project management and strategic planning principles. The successful candidate will also display high levels of energy, initiative and personal integrity and a strong focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
