The Organisation - TMR delivering for Queensland
Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is a vital government agency moving and connecting people, places, goods and services safely, efficiently and effectively around Queensland. Of significant scale and scope, TMR and its people share a common value - to drive positive change and to make a difference.
In this leadership role, add value to Queensland and support the creation of a single integrated transport network accessible to everyone!
Brisbane Based Opportunity - Strategic & Operational Engineering Leadership
As Director, Safety Technology Assets, you will manage and maintain a broad suite of road safety technology field assets including enforcement cameras, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems and Weigh in Motion Technology (WIM) to ensure performance data and insights are available to share and be integrated, across portfolios and agencies, to enable informed decisions to improve safety for those using roads and roadsides.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Safer Roads Infrastructure (SRI), this exciting and vital role strategically and operationally contributes to the Unit's support of both TMR and the objectives of the 'Queensland Road Safety Strategy 2022-2031'.
Leading a team of ~35 (field operations/maintenance), you will oversee a diverse array of field devices on the network, develop a technology assets roadmap, and review the strategic placement of assets/upgrades to be delivered, whilst ensuring business continuity through prioritisation. True collaboration is critical in this role, as you will work with broad ranging partners, both internal and external to TMR.
You will prepare high level, timely, strategic advice for Government, TMR Senior Leaders and other critical stakeholders on issues relating to emerging opportunities, and collaborate broadly across the road safety technology domain at an inter-agency and inter-government level (Local, State and Federal), TMR Districts/Branches, service providers and vendors, and beyond. In addition, you will drive change across Government in line with emerging technological solutions and operational road safety initiatives.
Your Leadership and Engineering Experience
As an inspiring and contemporary leader of highly regarded teams, with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Civil or Electrical) or equivalence and a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), you will demonstrate alignment to the scale, scope and complexity to the operating environment of this role and TMR, and your ability to:
* Proactively identify underlying causes of risks and issues, and develop contingency plans to ensure ongoing governance and legislative requirements are met;
* Read contentious and sensitive situations and respond appropriately to manage relationships and persuade stakeholders toward mutually beneficial outcomes;
* Remain composed during high-stakes situations, supporting the team to recognise gaps in information and seek advice to enable a prompt and considered response;
* Be dedicated to promoting safety, respect, inclusion, and diversity within a workplace setting, whilst modelling customer centricity and further developing valued industry networks and client relationships.
