CAS operates four tandem particle accelerators and a wide range of advanced engineering systems, scientific instrumentation, equipment, and technologies across twelve beamlines for accelerator science applications and twelve chemistry laboratories for specialised sample processing. CAS offers accelerator mass spectrometry, sample preparation, ion beam analysis, ion beam implantation, and ion beam irradiation - together in one centre - backed by decades of accumulated experience in accelerator science and operations.
As a user facility open to all, supported by the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), CAS informs policy, provides critical services for IAEA, and enables discovery and innovation in areas such as environment, climate and health sciences, space technologies, advanced materials for energy and quantum, and cultural heritage. CAS has received funding under the NCRIS to provide uplift of its accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) capability, this position is funded by this grant. CAS is particularly interested in pursuing new opportunities for their accelerator capabilities to support users in areas of climate and environmental change and archaeological research. Expertise in these areas will be highly regarded.
About YouThis role is ideal for you if you enjoy engaging with people, being hands-on, continuous learning, and working collaboratively. In this position, you will work closely with other physicists, chemists and technical staff in CAS, and we will support you to develop and grow your knowledge and application of our capabilities, techniques, and instrumentation to become an expert in operating our accelerator facilities. You will work collaboratively with current users from universities and industry, and with other researchers within ANSTO. You will use your past experience and collaborative networks to pursue new opportunities in growth areas for CAS. Together we will contribute to scientific outcomes to benefit people and the environment. Your insights are important to us and will contribute to developing our teams and the organisation.
