Role
The purpose of this role is to enable Surveyor-General Victoria to support major government land reform projects and related business dealings by providing plan and survey services. These projects currently include Immediate Protection Areas, Central West Investigation and Great Ocean Road Reform Projects. The role requires a sound knowledge of Victoria’s cadastral and land information systems, land surveying and advanced capability with CAD software packages, to support the Senior Surveyors in the delivery of plan and surveying services for a variety of government projects.

Your outcomes and accountabilties,
1. Leads and conducts surveys to report on land use and land boundary matters for a licensed surveyor to determine cadastral boundaries in accordance with the Surveying Act 2004 for a range of Crown and government land related projects.
2. Undertakes cadastral re-establishment computations and prepares relevant plans of surveys, abstracts of field records and reports of varying complexities.
3. Undertake preparation of survey files including the collation and analysis of survey information from Land Registry Services, Surveyor-General Victoria (SGV), Central Plan Office and Survey Marks Enquiry Services sources.
4. Support the development of the team to achieve common goals and foster an environment of shared success.
5. Actively maintain and support departmental and SGV Occupational Health and Safety policies to ensure a safe work environment in accordance with departmental and SGV manuals and guidelines.
6. Contribute to the adoption of new technology and survey techniques within Surveyor-General Victoria to improve workflow efficiencies.
7. To practice cultural safety by creating environments, relationships and systems free from racism and discrimination so that people can feel safe, valued and able to participate.
Key Selection Criteria
We are seeking a specialist with strong technical expertise in modern survey practices, demonstrated by extensive experience with cadastral surveys and a variety of equipment, including GNSS, levels, and total stations. The ideal candidate will be skilled in using software for digital field survey processing, drafting, and survey calculations, with a proven ability to prepare high-standard survey documentation.
Key qualifications include strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to understand stakeholder needs and tailor communications effectively. The candidate should possess solid critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, capable of resolving issues by analyzing available information and applying the right concepts in context.
In project delivery, the candidate must execute tasks according to plan, prioritize based on urgency, use task management tools, and maintain accurate records. A collaborative team player, the candidate will also engage with other teams to share information and support colleagues in challenging situations.

Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory
8. Minimum mandatory qualification is a Diploma in Surveying
Desirable
9. Minimum of five years’ experience as a field party leader
10. High level knowledge of Victoria’s Crown survey requirements, land information records and related land surveying regulatory processes, and second examination of Crown survey documentation.
