The Client
Dogar Constructions is known for providing top-quality services, including painting, renovations, and other construction solutions, located in Whyalla, SA. They now seek an experienced Painting Trades Person to join their team to handle a variety of painting projects for residential and commercial properties.
The Role
This is a full-time position with an annual salary ranging from $73,500 - $80,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience.
Responsibilities
1. Apply coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate as well as protect interior or exterior surfaces.
2. Read blueprints/instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.
3. Read work order or receive instructions from supervisor/homeowner regarding painting.
4. Smooth surfaces, using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool and remove old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting.
5. Make on-site preparations such as building scaffolding, covering fixtures, etc.
6. Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate material caulk, putty, plaster.
7. Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil for required colour.
8. Paint surfaces according to instructions with various tools like brushes, spray gun, and paint rollers.
9. Thin drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colours.
10. Remove fixtures, like pictures, electric switch covers, from walls prior to painting, using screwdriver.
11. Spread drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and cover surfaces, like baseboards, door frames, and windows to protect surfaces during painting.
12. Create special effects like wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects by applying paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers.
13. Put up scaffolding or set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
14. Wash surfaces prior to painting with mildew remover, using brush.
15. Apply wallpaper fabrics.
16. Estimate costs involved and negotiate prices.
Requirements
1. AQF Certificate III relevant qualifications.
2. Relevant experience and skillset to perform aforementioned duties.
3. At least 1-2 years' experience in a painting role in the painting and decorating industry.
4. At least 1-2 years' painting experience in a professional and commercial setting.
5. At least 1-2 years' experience in a wide range of painting techniques, including faux finishes, marbling, graining, and fresco.
6. At least 1-2 years' experience in chemical stripping, abrasive blasting, and power washing techniques for surface preparation.
7. Construction Induction Card.
8. Good understanding of colour theory and various finish types.
9. Physical dexterity to climb ladders, carry heavy equipment, and stand for long periods of time.
10. Additional tickets, EWP, and relevant licenses will be looked upon favourably.
11. Open to working in a regional location.
12. Willing to travel to different job sites as required by project demands.
13. Must have a personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
14. Have at least one contactable work referee.
