Your Opportunity
Join our Drug and Alcohol Youth Service (DAYS) team as a casual Residential Youth Worker, based at our Youth Withdrawal and Respite Detox Program site in East Perth. This role is ideal for passionate and engaging Youth Workers who are dedicated to supporting young people in rehabilitation as they face complex challenges related to alcohol and other drugs (AOD).
As part of our 24-hour service, you’ll work on a rotating roster, including evening, night, and weekend shifts. You will provide hands-on care and support to young people aged 12 to 21, helping them access a variety of therapeutic services. These include counselling, case management, alternative therapies, and mentoring, all aimed at fostering their wellbeing and personal growth.
Mission Australia's DAYS offers free and confidential services to young people and their families, empowering them to overcome substance use issues. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, compassionate team and be part of innovative programs that include clinical psychology, pharmacotherapy, and group work.
If you're looking to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people in East Perth, we'd love to hear from you!
Your key responsibilities will be to:
* Ensure compliance with Child Safe policies, raise concerns for child safety, and assess client suitability for support.
* Provide day-to-day support to clients, assist with practical tasks, facilitate activities, and manage medication safely using a trauma-informed approach.
* Collaborate with the Case Manager on case planning, track client progress, and ensure accurate completion of all documentation.
* Plan and deliver training, group programs, and recreational activities, while supervising students and junior staff.
* Perform administrative duties, maintain client files, manage medications, and prepare nutritious menus for clients.
* Actively contribute to team development through meetings, training, and Continuous Quality Improvement, building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

With a significant background in the AOD and/or in the child, youth & family sectors, you will be confident in your assessment processes.
* Relevant degree in Social Welfare/Social Science or a minimum of three years of relevant experience in a similar role.
* Demonstrated experience working with at-risk youth in a residential setting and engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
* Strong understanding of issues affecting young people, including family breakdown, homelessness, mental health, substance use, domestic violence, and trauma.

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with young people and key stakeholders.
* Availability to work a 24/7 roster, including 12-hour shifts on days, nights, and weekends
