Lakes Entrance Secondary College is the sole secondary school provider in Lakes Entrance, occupying a significant role in the town as a focus of community and educational connections. The College serves 300 students from various primary schools and caters to a diverse population. It offers a combination of ocean and forest, with ample opportunities for outdoor activities and a welcoming atmosphere.
The aim of the College is to prepare students for life as active, happy, curious, and engaged citizens. The Years 7 to 9 curriculum is designed to meet diverse educational needs and provide valuable learning experiences both in and out of the classroom. The College offers a Camp program, a robust Sports program, and celebrates student achievements. Year 9 students engage in an off-campus curriculum at the local fishing precinct, Bullock Island.
The College is led by a Principal, Assistant Principal, Learning Specialists, and a staff of 30 teachers and 15 Educational Support Staff. The focus on student well-being and safety is supported by a team of coordinators and a Student Wellbeing team.
The teaching and learning focus is guided by current research and evidence-based pedagogy, involving effective interventions to enable consistent growth for each student. All teaching staff engage in ongoing professional learning.
Selection Criteria
SC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills.
SC2 Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn.
SC3 Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning.
SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, establishing collaborative relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
SC5 Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values and engaging in professional learning.
Role
The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges- range 1 and range 2. The primary focus is on planning, preparation, and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
Range 2 teachers play a significant role in improving student performance and educational outcomes, contributing to the development of school policies. They will be expected to:
* Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet diverse student needs.
* Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers.
* Provide expert advice on content and strategies for professional learning.
* Supervise and train student teachers.
* Assist staff to use student data to inform teaching approaches.
Range 1 teachers focus on developing skills to become effective practitioners, receiving structured support and guidance from higher-level teachers.
Responsibilities
The role may include but is not limited to:
* Direct teaching of groups and individual students.
* Contributing to curriculum development and evaluation.
* Participating in parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions.
* Undertaking non-teaching supervisory duties.
Who May Apply
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified in the specified curriculum area(s).
