CONSIDER A CAREER AS A CHILD & YOUTHWORKER
As a Child & Youth Worker, you will ensure children andyoung people in care have opportunities to experience education andparticipate in social, sporting and cultural activities.
You will be part of a team contributing to:
1. improving the social and living skills of children and young people in residential care
2. assisting in the reunification/reconnection with their families, family-based care providers, or other suitable care options and ultimately, the effective transition into the community and/or assessing their individual needs
3. ensuring appropriate levels of their safety and supervision are maintained at all times.
In return, you will:
4. receive a competitive salary, plus super and relevant shift penalties
5. accrue up to 5 weeks annual leave
6. be paid to complete the nationally accredited qualification, Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention
7. gain membership to the Department’s State Wide Aboriginal Training (SWAT)
8. be assigned an Aboriginal Mentor to help guide and offer you support
9. have access to the TAFE Aboriginal Access Centre to support you during your Certificate IV training
10. be allocated a mentor and undertake shadow shifts to build your confidence and develop your skills
11. receive ongoing learning and development.
ABOUT YOU
To be a Child & Youth Worker, you will:
12. have relevant job or volunteer experience or transferrable skills from working with vulnerable people in a variety of disciplines (for example, child care, aged care, community service, SSO in schools, or disability support)
13. obtain a Working with Children Check from the Department of Human Services prior to being offered work
14. hold a current HLTAID012 – Provide Emergency First Aid in an Education Care Setting unit of competency, or be willing to obtain one prior to an offer of employment
15. hold a current Australian driver’s licence (P2 or above) and be willing to regularly drive children and young people.
You must be willing to:
16. undergo a telephone interview, medical and psychological assessments
17. undertake an 8-week, full-time induction program
18. complete the CHC40313 Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention qualification within the first 12 months of your employment
19. work shifts which includes nights, weekends and public holidays

Visa requirements
We welcome applications from anyone who holds a valid Australianworking visa with a minimum of 2 years’ full working rightsfrom the time of joining the Employment Pool. Applicants holding aStudent Visa (subclass 500) can only be employed if they are notsubjected to the work restriction of 48 hours per fortnighteffective from 1 July 2023.
About our recruitment process:
We recruit for Child & Youth Workers throughout the year andthose who are successful are placed into an Employment Pool for 12months. This is not an offer of employment, but allows us to offeryou a job when a vacancy becomes available.
This is an ongoing rolling advertisement and you can apply atany time. We generally have four intakes per year and yourapplication will be considered for the next available recruitmentround.
As jobs become available, we select candidates from ourEmployment Pool. Those offered a job will be required to undertakean 8-week, full-time induction program .
If you have selected to work only on the night shift roster, youwill still be required to undertake the same selection process asthose working a 24/7 shift roster and complete the required 8-weekinduction program.

What else do you need to know?
Our residential care properties do not close. The children andyoung people in our care require your attention and supervision atall times.
Shifts rotate and include AM, PM and active night shifts, withvarying start and finish times. You will be required to work acrossall three shifts (unless you have selected night shiftonly). Shift work also includes weekends and public holidaysso you are encouraged to consider this aspect of the role andwhether it suits your circumstances.
