ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated candidate with a passion for helping the ACT community to fill the role of ACTRFS Senior Operations Officer (SOO). You will be part of a proactive community-based service; in protecting people, property and environment from bushfire. Your duties will directly support the ACTRFS Director Operations in the delivery of the ACTRFS functions as outlined in the ACT Emergencies Act (2004). Key components to this role include excellent communication skills, the ability to adapt to operational needs and of ACTRFS and Brigades; to directly support our large cohort 500 volunteers on the front line. This role involves working collaboratively by maintaining internal and external stakeholders and membership engagement activities. In addition, you will work collaboratively with JACS Capital Works & Infrastructure and other directorates of the ACT Government. Under limited direction, you will be required to plan and coordinate projects, organise and prioritise workloads and supervise the maintenance and capability of the ACTRFS fleet in order to meet multiple demands and deadlines within an environment of rapid change. Qualifications in fire management, Emergency Management and/or AIIMS are desirable. Minimum C Class driver’s licence is essential, together with the ability to gain an MR Class Licence. A pre-employment medical is required for all new employees. The ACTRFS also requires the successful applicant to undertake an annual fitness test for fire ground access. Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
