A bit about the role This role sits in the Planning and Building department as part of the City Planning and Infrastructure division which plans, designs, builds and maintains the City for our growing community. As a Team Leader, you will lead staff and consultants to ensure timely and accurate administration of statutory planning controls through effective resource management, coaching, performance monitoring, continuous improvement, collaboration, and stakeholder management. What you'll deliver Foster, and lead by example, a culture of innovation, facilitation, collaboration and customer focus. Provide direction, role clarity and coaching, ensuring team members have clear work objectives, regular reviews and feedback, and are positively engaged in the performance review process. Conceive and implement continuous improvement initiatives in consultation with stakeholders that improve the performance of the service. Provide coaching, monitoring and performance management of direct reports, consultants and other contributors to the service to ensure Council priorities are met. Undertake development of strategic insights that can translate into meaningful strategic recommendations and decisions. Contribute to the long-term strategic direction of the Council through the development, ongoing review and/or participation, of the strategies and policies that the department and unit are responsible for and/or are affected by. Analyse financial and budget requirements to relevant standards, guidelines and processes to address risk, optimise resources and seek continuous improvement to support strategic objectives. What you'll bring Degree or diploma with several years of relevant experience; or higher formal qualifications with a shorter period of experience; or lesser formal qualifications supported by extensive relevant experience. Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and coach a team of staff and consultants to meet priorities and targets. Experience in engaging with the community and other significant stakeholders to achieve optimum outcomes. Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills to navigate through the complexities of the leadership role. Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
