About the roleThe Clinical Nurse will be based within the Consultation Liaison Team at Mater Hospital, working across various wards and units to provide support for patients with mental health needs. The role involves regular interaction with medical, surgical, and psychiatric teams, as well as patients and their families. This role is essential to improving patient outcomes and enhancing the holistic care provided to individuals with co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions. Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for patients admitted to medical or surgical units with psychiatric comorbidities or psychological distress. Work collaboratively with medical teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients requiring mental health support during their hospital stay. Provide nursing interventions that align with the patient's mental health and medical care needs, including emotional support, medication management, and crisis intervention. About you Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in mental health nursing or consultation liaison psychiatry. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals. Strong clinical assessment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, particularly in managing complex or high-risk mental health presentations. Postgraduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing or related field. Experience in an acute hospital setting or liaison psychiatry. Familiarity with psychiatric consultation liaison frameworks and best practice guidelines.
