Our client is a world-wide market leader in the manufacture and sale of conveyor belt fasteners, cleaners and maintenance products. We are seeking an Area Sales Manager to expand our sales of quality European and Australian-made products in North Queensland.
It is a well-known European manufacturer who has been in operations in Australia since the early 1990s importing and distributing quality German-engineered products across heavy industrial, automotive aftermarket and, in the instance of this role, underground and open cut mining industries.
The organisation imports the raw materials and fabricates customised fastener solutions for conveyor belts at their facility in the mining regions of NSW. Their products help mining companies to service and maintain conveyor belt equipment used to transport mined goods (mostly coal) from the mines to the site's processing facilities.
Your new role
Based in Mackay, this role will be focused on managing and growing sales in the North Queensland area. You will maintain and deepen existing relationships with customers and seek out new opportunities for growth.
To be successful in this role, you will be proactive in identifying and solving customer issues, developing the product knowledge needed to tailor the right solution for your customers’ needs. As the primary contact for business in your region, building relationships is key and requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Sales are generated by both engaging with both the OEMs of conveyor belts and end users on mine sites - be that the Mechanical Engineers, Mine Maintenance Supervisors, Outbye Services or Procurement or Purchasing Managers, as well as the resellers or contractors charged with servicing and procuring products to service the mines' capital equipment.
Further to the core focus on Underground and Open Cut Mining, there is also then the opportunity to explore other markets that use conveyor belts and explore opportunities to expand the breadth of industries to increase revenue lines - this could include recycling, quarrying and agriculture.
What you'll need to
* Knowledge and a proven track record of selling mining supplies into underground and open-cut mining in the Mackay and Bowen Basin regions - with a history of developing customer relationships in this area, so that you understand the customer base and geography and can travel based on a 4-week call cycle around the region with a couple of nights staying away per week.
* A good understanding of the mining industry, preferably conveyors and conveyor maintenance - however their product range can be taught, so any relatable product knowledge is transferable.
* Backgrounds in mechanical trades like a fitter or machinist are more beneficial than a mechanical engineering degree is preferred. Unrestricted drivers’ licence and willingness to travel throughout the assigned region.
* Excellent organisational skills with a proven ability to prioritise workload and work independently.
* Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
* High level computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
* Experience with developing, monitoring and achieving sales budgets.
* The ability to conduct on-site product training of customer employees (Certi IV in Training & Assessment will be provided).
