About the Role
Working within our Legal & Risk team, you will provide commercially focused legal advice and ensure legally compliant, informed and ethical decision-making. This is a pivotal role in our business, and you will be involved in a broad variety of business-wide initiatives. Some of the areas of responsibility include:
1. Review major commercial contracts and interpret rights and obligations for a variety of commercial agreements, including but not limited to licenses, services, leases, project agreements and provide legal advice consistent with the commercial interests of Keystart.
2. Manage commercial negotiations through developing strategies that protect Keystart’s legal interests.
3. Provide general advice, interpretation and assistance to management in relation to credit lending, banking and finance, privacy and other general legal and regulatory obligations.
4. Provide advice and impact analysis for proposed regulatory and statutory changes, including identification of potential issues, determine any statutory and regulatory exposures and develop rectification plans.
5. Identify current and potential legal risks and develop mitigating strategies with the business.
About You
Proven substantial experience in a similar role with in-house counsel and advisory work, with a strong focus on drafting, reviewing and commenting on commercial contracts, IT contracts, supplier agreements and other business documents such as external marketing materials. Experience in a financial services environment, or a GTE would be a significant advantage.
In depth knowledge of legislative, regulatory, and statutory requirements under an Australian Credit Licence, residential mortgage lending and financial regulation including ASIC and APRA requirements.
Excellent commercial acumen and the ability to understand and advise on complex commercial transactions.
Key for this role is the ability to communicate legal concepts in a commercially focused and pragmatic manner and will involve regular collaboration with and presentation to, the executive leadership team and the board of directors.
Demonstrated ability to provide practical commercial legal advice and exercise sound legal judgement.
Up to date knowledge and experience of corporate governance including policy development and drafting and implementation of systems and frameworks.
Well-developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with strong commercial judgement and decision-making ability; and
Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
Bachelor of Laws (8+ years post qualification experience), a current unrestricted WA practising certificate and suitable police & bankruptcy checks are prerequisites for this role.
