Training:
Applicants who are hired will receive on-the-job training, assisted by a Dispatch Training Officer. During the training process, the Dispatcher I will learn Department policies, basic dispatching and call-taking procedures, and operation of the Computer Aided Dispatch, radio and phone systems. The training program is designed to provide the Dispatcher I with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the functions of a Dispatcher II.

Education and Experience Guidelines
- Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training:
* Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and
Experience:
* One year of full-time clerical experience involving heavy public contact while performing multiple tasks.
License/Certificate:
* Successful completion of the California Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course is required within 12 months of hire and is a condition of passing probation.
Other Requirements:
* Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
* Must be able to pass a comprehensive law enforcement background check.

A completed City of Brentwood Employment Application. Postmarks, faxes and incomplete applications will not be accepted. Your application must be filled out completely online. Resumes may also be submitted but it is not a substitute for a completed application.
The examination process will consist of:
1. Application Review – Completed applications will be evaluated based on job-related qualifications, which could include desirable qualifications and the specific needs of the hiring department. Candidates may be screened for better qualified to continue in the examination process.
2. CritiCall Examination
o CritiCall Examination – Candidates determined to be better qualified will be invited to test with the City of Brentwood, tentatively scheduled the week of January 6, 2025.
3. Eligible List – All applicants that pass the examination process will be placed on the eligible list which is good for at least 6 months and may be extended up to an additional 18 months. This eligible list will be used by the City of Brentwood to fill all current and future openings in this classification as long as the list is active.
4. Mandatory Job Preview – Candidates that make it onto the eligible list are required to participate in the job preview before they are to continue in the examination process.
5. Department Interviews – Candidates that have attended the mandatory job preview, and desire to continue in the examination process, may be selected to interview with the department leadership team.
6. Polygraph Exam – Selected candidates will be invited to take a polygraph exam.
7. Captains Interviews – The best qualified candidates will be invited for a Captains interview.
8. Background Investigation – Selected candidates will be invited to complete comprehensive background investigation process.
9. Police Chief – Final candidates will be invited to interview with the Police Chief.
10. Drug Screening and Psychological Evaluation – One or more candidates may be provided a conditional offer of employment. All employment offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a drug screening and psychological evaluation.
