What’s the role?
* Provide culturally appropriate psychosocial supports to individuals and families living in remote areas.
* Provide psychosocial supports to people accepted as NDIS eligible until they have an individually funded package in place.
* Maintain an understanding of family networks, local language and interpreting services to enable information to be communicated with people who do not have English as a first language.
* Work with participants to create individual and culturally appropriate recovery plans including referrals to supplementary support services.
* Provide informal counselling and ongoing case management with individual recovery plan progression regularly reviewed.
* Conduct capacity building activities with participants and in the community.
* Assist people transition out of the service into independence or other services.
* Maintain a minimum allocated caseload.
* Develop strong internal relationships with participants and other staff to contribute to the effective functioning of the service and improved outcomes.
* Develop strong relationships with key external stakeholders in remote communities to assist in the receipt of information and referral of participants.
* Engage with NDIS regional contacts, including Local Area Coordinators, to support NDIS planning and participation.
* Undertake promotional activities with program participants in remote and the broader community.
Is this the right role for you?
* Minimum Certificate IV qualifications in Mental Health or equivalent with previous experience working in the mental health sector.
* Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities – previous experience working within remote or regional groups.
* Ability to travel to remote communities on a regular basis, involving overnight stays.
* A sound understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) access process.
* A demonstrated person-centered, recovery-focused, strength-based approach to participants’ care, based on a sound understanding of mental health and illness.
* Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience in developing and/or facilitating one-on-one and group activities.
