About the role AEMO's Operational Support division provides technical advice, training, and systems to support operation of the National Electricity Market (NEM).
The services include planning the operation of the power system, forecasting demand in operational timeframes, modelling network congestion and grids, and developing the NEM central dispatch process.
This is important in ensuring AEMO operates the NEM efficiently.
This is a Principal level role that provides both technical expertise and leadership within the Electricity Market Monitoring (EMM) group.
You will lead and contribute to EMM's operational tasks around monitoring, reporting and analysis of dispatch outcomes in the NEM, and provide guidance to a team to complete a range of BAU and ad hoc tasks.
The position will also be visible in the market, building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
What you will be doing Lead the EMM Market Operations & Analysis team, relating to the EMM's role in monitoring, reporting and analysis of dispatch outcomes in the NEM.
Provide expert technical advice on matters relating to the operation of the central dispatch process in the NEM.
Lead the identification of opportunities to improve the effectiveness of NEM dispatch systems.
Prepare and present project proposals, monitor progress of projects for deliverables, achievement of budgets, and resourcing to meet project and team objectives.
Lead and contribute to consultations and engagement with internal and external stakeholders on the delivery of AEMO projects.
Monitor NEM regulatory developments and provide updates to operations on matters that are relevant to NEM system and wholesale market operations.
Develop and present educational material to a range of people including from government, regulators, participants, public, overseas experts and AEMO staff.
Mentor and support team members within the Market Operations & Analysis team, and manage resource allocation within the team to deliver monitoring and reporting obligations as required.
What you will bring to the role Tertiary qualifications in an analytical discipline such as Commerce, Finance, Maths, Data Science or Engineering.
Significant experience in the operation and analysis of electricity markets and power system operation.
Ability to undertake analysis of data using complex large-scale relational database systems.
Experience working within a complex technical and regulatory environment.
Demonstrated ability to perform sophisticated analysis on market outcomes, draw insightful conclusions and report these to technical and non-technical audiences.
A sound understanding of technical aspects of a real-time electricity market including dispatch and pricing in the NEM, and how they relate to the physical power system.
Experience in mentoring and leading a small team of market analysts.
Proven ability to communicate verbally and in writing with confidence and credibility to people at all levels.
