Lutruwita Art Orchestra is seeking a highly skilled and organised person to be our new General Manager!

This role will be based on a contract to the end of 2025. Subject to funding the contract may be renewed on an ongoing basis at the conclusion of the initial term.
This role will be 2 days a week (.4 FTE), commencing in May 2025. There will be a probation period of 3 months. The General Manager works in close partnership with the Artistic Director and must be available to work in the LAO office for at least 3-4 hours on either Mondays or Fridays. Much of the role will be deliverable from home.

The Lutruwita Art Orchestra (LAO) is a diverse ensemble of musicians who collaborate and create new work through improvisation. We make a platform for creating a uniquely Tasmanian sonic culture through our diversity in instrumentation, musical cultures and lived experience. We are supported by a staff of production and artistic workers, along with a Board of Directors made up of individuals with expertise in the arts industry, financial sector and community development.

About you:
We're looking for a general manager who has:
1. Experience working in the arts and/or not-for-profit industries,
2. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, efficiently and nimbly to tight deadlines,
3. Experience in the writing, delivery and acquittal of funding applications to a range of local, state and national funding bodies,
4. Some experience using Xero accounting software to manage payroll and invoices, or demonstrated ability to learn quickly and efficiently on the job,
5. A passion for engaging with respect with people and communities of many different ages, abilities, cultural backgrounds, genders, sexualities and beliefs,
6. A passion for supporting the development of new artistic work that tells the stories of our community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Governance & financial management
1. In collaboration with the AD work with the LAO Board and its sub-committees providing advice and guidance to ensure the effective operation and administration of the organisation, including preparation of agendas, reports and supporting documentation.
2. Attend Board and some sub-committee meetings, update the Board on issues affecting the operations of LAO and report on the organisation’s activities, programs and its progress in attaining its strategic objectives.
3. In collaboration with the AD, ensure that program planning and all undertakings are consistent with approved policies and budget parameters set by the Board and adhere to statutory obligations.
4. Operate LAO’s financial systems (currently using Xero) including management and data entry of invoices, accounts payable, payroll, PAYG and superannuation. Execute monthly and quarterly journals. With the Treasurer, track financial performance against budget and funding, and deliver timely reports to the Board.
5. In collaboration with the AD, ensure the LAO artistic and community outreach programs are financially viable, securing funding through grants from government, trusts and foundations, sponsorship, individual philanthropic sources and income generating initiatives.
6. Prepare statutory accounts for annual audit and reporting, and liaise with external auditors.
7. Ensure all reports and acquittals for funding are completed on time and to the highest possible standard.
Co-leadership and people management
1. Maintain the agreed operational model as approved by the Board and resource it to enable the achievement of the LAO’s objectives.
2. In collaboration with the AD, select, contract, manage, supervise the training of and review of staff, contractors and volunteers.
3. In collaboration with the AD, complete inductions for new staff and contractors, including outlining and documenting the expectations for each respective role.
4. Ensure employment processes and practices are fair, safe and legally compliant.
5. Ensure that all staff and volunteers hold any required certifications for their role, including WWVP for staff and volunteers where needed.
6. Work with the AD and the Board to identify long-term strategic risks and opportunities relevant to LAO’s future.
7. Where agreed, undertake travel and meetings in order to maintain or build relationships with donors and strategic partners, as well as broker new collaborations. Participate in conferences, conventions, and other industry events representing the LAO.
8. In collaboration with the Board, the AD, and the Resourcing Committee negotiate with foundations, donors and sponsors – and, in collaboration with the AD, identify funding opportunities and write funding submissions.
9. Identify income-generating opportunities to support LAO’s artistic program.
Marketing
1. In collaboration with the AD and part-time marketing staff develop, implement and monitor LAO’s Marketing Plan/strategy to raise the profile of the organisation locally and nationally, and to attract and retain participants, audiences, funding, sponsors and donors.
2. In collaboration with the AD and part-time marketing staff run LAO’s online communications, including the website, targeted emails, and social media channels.
3. In collaboration with the AD, implement the strategic plan of the LAO as agreed to by the Board.
