About the Role Due to internal promotions within the City, an exciting opportunity has become available for a manager to join our Development and Design team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the City's Development and Design department, with a focus on leadership, and its development assessment and design review functions.
As the manager your key responsibilities will include: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the service unit and setting clear performance goals and ensuring delivery against targets.
Maintain a team-oriented approach by providing mentorship, coaching and continuous learning opportunities for staff.
Oversee the City's development assessment process, and ensuring development applications, Development Assessment Panel applications, local development plans, subdivision referrals, deemed-to-comply checks and State Government referrals for development are processed efficiently and within statutory timeframes.
Represent the City in the State Administrative Tribunal in appeal processes relating to development matters.
Ensure the timely preparation of high-quality reports and recommendations for Council, the Development Assessment Panel, and other decision-making bodies, providing clear and accurate advice on development proposals.
Effectively communicate complex planning issues to diverse audiences, including Council members, the community, and other stakeholders.
Engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, developers, community groups and residents to facilitate successful planning outcomes.
Act as a key representative for the City in meetings, workshops and public consultations, and effectively advocate for the City's planning priorities.
What are we looking for?
To be successful in this role you will need: Tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or a related discipline.
Significant experience in management, leading multi-disciplinary teams and proven ability to develop a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on leading, mentoring and coaching staff.
Extensive experience in urban planning, development assessment and applying planning legislation and policies.
Extensive experience in preparing clear, high-quality reports for Council, Development Assessment Panels and other decision-making bodies, that effectively communicates complex issues to diverse audiences, including the community.
Sound experience in communicating and liaising with a range of stakeholders, including applicants, the community and Council members, in different forums on development matters.
