Local Workforce Hire has been invited to assist the Department of Industry, Science and Resources in sourcing a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to support and maintain the Department's high-availability data centre operations and drive critical infrastructure upgrades.
About the OpportunityAs a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the ICT Networks & Infrastructure Platforms section, responsible for the day-to-day operations of two departmental data centres.
You'll also serve as the lead technical expert supporting a major UPS and AC replacement project, ensuring uptime, performance, and operational excellence.
This is a Canberra-based on-site position.
While 100% remote work is not available, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated with the hiring manager.
Key ResponsibilitiesOversee daily operations of departmental data centres, including UPS and AC systemsManage racks, cabling, space optimisation, airflow, and power distributionMonitor performance using vROPs and EcoStruxure DCO/DCECoordinate with vendors for system upgrades, maintenance, and complianceEnforce ICT security policies and operational best practicesProvide technical leadership on the UPS/AC replacement projectResearch and evaluate market offerings, and recommend the most suitable solutionsDevelop high-quality design, build, and operational documentationPresent technical solutions clearly and coach staff across the ICT Operations BranchWhat We're Looking ForProven hands-on experience managing enterprise data centre infrastructureExperience delivering or supporting UPS and AC replacement projectsDeep understanding of infrastructure monitoring tools and system optimisationStrong analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesExcellent communication and stakeholder engagement skillsAbility to document and standardise procedures and infrastructure designAustralian Citizenship (mandatory)Must hold or be able to obtain Baseline security clearanceEssential CriteriaExperience with data centre operations including rack management, vendor coordination, and real-time monitoringDemonstrated ability to deliver infrastructure upgrade projects involving AC and UPS systems, including analysis of current technologiesCapability to write and maintain design, build, and operational documentationStrong verbal and written communication skills, with confidence presenting to stakeholders and coaching team membersDesirable CriteriaUnderstanding of Government security frameworks (including Essential Eight and the PSPF) up to Protected levelDon't Have a Security Clearance?If you don't currently hold a security clearance, we can assist you through the entire process.
